Brainwave synchronization and hemispheric interaction

Q:
Hi!

Dr.Zilberterm are there different degrees of hemispheric synchronization ? Do people with extremely high intelligence naturally experience hemispheric synchronization ? Thank you so much.

A: Hello,

Brainwave synchronization or entrainment usually means that an external stimulus (sounds presented binaurally or monaurally, certain beats and tones, etc, lights and other forms of visual stimulation) is used to induce changes in frequencies of electrical activity in brain structures. If this is what you mean, than we should be talking about different abilities in different people to fall into the intended state of modified brainwave frequencies depending on the stimulation. I am not aware of correlation of intelligence with this ability.

If, however, you mean inter-hemispheric interaction and the term synchronization is used not with brainwave characteristics in mind, than, maybe this information can help?

The matter is, brain hemispheres are so different that sometimes they almost look like two different brains. This problem has been studied since 1975 and continued to hold interest, including practical applications to a broad range of subjects: language, gender differences, reading, emotions, problem-solving, memory, handedness, personality, etc.

If you could be more specific within these two aspects, I'd be able to elaborate. Meanwhile, you might want to read here.
